Empty high school auditorium with a blue-lit stage, for a Bixby fine arts story

Bixby Stage Season: Toni Ross, Radium Girls and Sleepy Hollow (October 6, 2026)

By BixbyMerch.com · October 6, 2026

Good morning, Bixby. Friday nights get most of the attention this time of year, but some of the best Spartan stories this fall are happening on a stage.

The district's October Fine Arts Monthly, published September 28 by Coordinator of Fine Arts Jeremy Parker, puts a spotlight on a theatre teacher, two student productions and a young show choir that is already turning heads.

Teacher spotlight: Toni Ross

Toni Ross teaches theatre at Bixby Middle School. Bixby Public Schools describes her classroom as a place where young performers learn acting, technical theatre, production work and ensemble collaboration, with high expectations and plenty of encouragement.

Her work doesn't stop when school lets out. Mrs. Ross is a co-founder of Broadway in Bixby Summer Theatre Camp, which gives young artists more chances to learn, perform and connect over the summer. This fall she is leading the cast and crew of the middle school's next show.

Mark your calendar

  • Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory, presented by Bixby High School's The Troupe. Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. in C.E. Gray Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
  • The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, presented by the Bixby Middle School Spartan Players in an adaptation by Peter and Hans Bloedel. November 6 and 7 at 7:00 p.m. on the Bixby Middle School stage, 15400 S. Mingo Road. Tickets are $5.

Radium Girls is set in 1926 and is inspired by the true story of young women who painted glowing watch dials and were told the radium paint was safe. It follows dial painter Grace Fryer as she fights to hold her employer accountable.

Sleepy Hollow, just in time for fall, brings Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman to the middle school stage.

Spartan Genesis is ranked third in Oklahoma

Spartan Genesis, Bixby High School's competitive show choir, is preparing for only its second season of competition and is already ranked third among Oklahoma's competitive show choirs, behind Broken Arrow and Jenks. The group recently finished 30 hours of choreography during its second weekend of camp. Choir teachers Avery Finley and Jace Caldwell direct the ensemble.

One more date for way down the road: the Bixby Fine Arts Fair returns to downtown Bixby on Saturday, May 1, 2027, with student performances at Charley Young Event Park and a districtwide student art show at Soul II Sole Performing Arts.
